An award-winning documentary film, "Huntington's Dance," will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Monongalia Friends' Meetinghouse, 648 E. Brockway, Morgantown. Directed by Barbour County native Chris Furbee, the film premiered in 2014 at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where it won a special jury award for "Most Compelling Personal Journey."
It is sponsored by the Morgantown Huntington's Disease Support Group.
Much of the film was shot in Philippi, W.Va., and captures the director's coming back to Barbour County to deal with his mother's deteriorating health due to Huntington's. Additional footage was shot in Tucker and Monongalia counties.
The entire film was 18 years in the making. Also appearing on screen are Furbee's mother Rosemary Shockey Furbee and father Gene Furbee. The soundtrack features well-known local musicians Mike Furbee, Bob Shank and Rachel Eddy, and Chris Furbee's aunt Sharon Furbee Hudkins.
Chris and his mother lived briefly in the Sabraton area. Mike, Sharon and Gene all received degrees from WVU. Mike Furbee, a longtime resident of Morgantown and former Health Sciences Center research staff member, will be on hand to answer questions after the film.
